Stuff Dogs Like #4

8 Dec

Dogs like spraying filthy bacteria-ridden water in homes and on furniture.

Dogs seem to like wading in watery holes (see Stuff Dogs Like #2). These holes can be small muddy puddles or big grand lakes, but the activity is the same.. to trudge through like hippos, occasionally pausing, stopping, descending and flattening out to their fullest circumference, spongeing up as much of the water (again often muddy water) and whatever debris or flotsam may be in it. THEN dragging themselves out of said watery hole and pad leisurely back towards either humans or home before shaking the excess drips in the direction of intended human or item within the home.

My dog will literally wait up to 10 minutes before beginning his gratifying shake off, just to be sure he is perfectly situated (normally in the house) for the fullest effect. He has all sorts of techniques. There is the traditional car wash type twisting of pelt from side to side which produces a rolling splash. His canvass for this is normally the living room wall. A more inventive method involves him running like a bullet towards sofas and skimming the sides, thus providing a lovely mottled brown effect on the skirting. Another attack on the sofa is to plant himself on a seat as soon as he’s through the door guaranteeing the smell of wet dog will greet anyone who sits there for weeks after.

And yet, the prospect of a bath or a hose sends him running? Clean water is just no fun???

Ah, the wet dog shake! It clearly brings them much joy to do it where they can witness the aftermath for a period of time to come. Stinkers!
